St. Michael’s features specialized areas for each age-group served, including a brand new room especially designed for newborns... and an infant/toddler playroom. Classroom instruction at St. Michael’s combines the best of several well-known and proven approaches to learning including the philosophies of Montessori, Piaget, Gardener and others including developmentally appropriate practice and the project-based approach. Learning is hands-on and interactive. Instruction is provided in pre-reading and reading, writing, language arts, math, science, introductory computer skills, library, social studies and culture, and life skills. Specialized classes include dance, drama, and art and the school features a spacious stage and bright, airy performance area. Enrichment is offered on varied topics and includes yoga and storytelling. St. Michael’s provides Spanish language immersion instruction for all students, starting in its infant care program. Students at St. Michael’s are grouped according to both their age and their developmental level. This developmental approach helps children learn leadership skills and provides a sense of accomplishment as children advance. Students move to the next level when they are developmentally and cognitively ready.
